General Information
The University of Durban~Westville is a leading urban institution of higher education in the Eastern seaboard of KwaZulu Natal province, South Africa. The University has about 7,500 students from diverse religious, cultural and geographical backgrounds. The institution has state-of-the-arts technological facilities, one of the largest Sports Centers in the region, and a fast-expanding library. The four Faculties are: Humanities (including Education); Science and Engineering; Law, Commerce and Management; and Health Sciences. The University is in the process of restructuring in order to provide a more technologically relevant curriculum that serves the needs of development communities in and beyond South Africa through the creation of highly employable graduates.
Department in Focus
Geographical Information System (GIS) is being offered as one of the core courses within the Department of Geography and Environmental studies at both graduate and undergraduate levels. The graduate program offers MA or MSc degrees depending on the area of specialization. Undergraduate students take three or four degree courses. Graduate students are normally expected to finish their coursework and theses within two years. Bot undergraduate and graduate courses start beginning of February each year.
