ECA's African
Capital Markets Development Programme has planned the following
activities for its current phase:
- Three sub-regional
workshops aimed specifically at building capacity in the existing
capital markets. The workshops are intended to bring together
the CEOs of the capital markets, senior policy makers from central
banks, ministries of finance, regulatory authorities, and senior
capital market practitioners from the private sector such as investment
houses, stock broking firms, merchant banks, as well as leading
capital market experts from academia.
- Training
Manuals will be commissioned from leading capital market practitioners
to aid the running of the workshops. These will be in-depth studies
of the operations of African capital markets and will provide
policy recommendations to capital market practitioners on how
to address the challenges facing them. These Manuals are separate
from the papers and presentations that invited experts will prepare
at the workshops.
- ECA will
hold a Regional Forum in 2004, with participation from all African
countries, whether they have capital markets or not. This will
be a forum for bringing together ideas and suggestions gathered
from the workshops. This Forum will also be used to promote the
development of capital markets to those African countries that
do not currently have one.
- A number
of Technical Papers on some of the challenges facing African capital
markets will be commissioned from leading experts. The Report
and Policy Recommendations of these Technical Papers will be debated
at the Forum.
