Many broadcasting for development initiatives have been implemented in Africa, with mixed results. What are the most effective initiatives currently underway? What constraints do broadcasters face that work against more consistent, contextualized and process-oriented coverage of key development issues? What training is presently available for journalists working on development issues and is it sufficient? Do broadcasters communicate effectively with policy makers and development experts?

The Role of Development Organizations

What role should development institutions (multilateral development banks, UN agencies, NGOs, etc) play in facilitating broadcasting of development? How realistic is the vision of various development agencies? What have been the most successful initiatives by such agencies? What factors are behind these best practices and how can such initiatives be built upon? Where are the gaps and why have these gaps not been filled?

What has been the experience with partnerships, be they among broadcasters, between broadcasters and development organizations, or between broadcasters and funding partners? What types of partnerships have typically been forged? What are the gaps? What targets can ECA and other interested parties set themselves this year for achieving a few quick wins as far as setting up new partnerships for funding, training, production and dissemination is concerned?
