The Web Magazine

To coincide with ECA's publication of an MDG progress report – The Millennium Development Goals in Africa: Progress and Challenges – this web magazine aims to look specifically at Africa’s ability to meet the Goals.

Much has been said or written about the slow pace of development on the continent, with many sub-Sahara African countries unlikely to achieve the Goals by the target date of 2015. But the purpose of this magazine is to focus on the Goals themselves, rather than the 2015 date.

For Africa, the Goals are a way to advance development, rather than a race to the finish line. Not every Goal will be met by 2015 but enormous strides can be taken within the coming years. These pages will track progress, highlight positive developments, analyse scenarios and argue that there is no need for despair - Africa canmeet the Goals with the right policies, resources and commitment.

The magazine will be regularly updated with news, events and analyses, and provide links to relevant sites or stories. ECA welcomes thought-provoking comments and feedback, and will publish a selection of comments on this website. We would also like to hear first-hand accounts on the impact that the MDG targets are - or are not - having in your country. Send us a postcard!
