The Executive Committee
of the African Ministers’ Council on Water (AMCOW) ended its two day meeting
Thursday in Addis Ababa with broad agreements on the modalities for cooperation
between AMCOW, regional economic communities (RECs), river basin organizations
and strategic development partners.
To
ensure consistency, the Committee called for strengthening of the links between
the water units of various RECSs and River/Lake Basin Organizations in the areas
of programming, information sharing and resource mobilization.
It requested NEPAD to organize a workshop of stakeholders to review the relationship
between RECs, river basin organizations and NEPAD.
The Committee also called for institutionalized collaboration between AMCOW
and key stakeholders, urging closer networking among basin organizations and
involvement of strategic partners in all AMCOW activities, including the meetings
of its technical advisory committee.
It called on AMCOW to develop a system of information gathering and analysis
on activities related to it and to update the compendium on transboundary basins
in Africa.
