Financer l’intégration
régionale en afrique

Price 18 Euro
Africa has seen several high-profile attempts at integrating its economies, but to date, the efforts are not commensurate with results on the ground. The key institutions charged with integrating African economies are the Regional Economic Communities (RECS). However, these institutions mainly depend on contributions from Member States for their resources and to date, the accumulation of arrears in payments to several RECs has exposed the limits of this traditional system of financing. It has therefore become imperative to seek alternative financing mechanisms to ensure adequate and sustainable flow of resources. This text outlines various alternatives and where available, uses concrete experiences of some RECs to illustrate its recommendations.
L’Afrique
et les négociations agricoles
ISBN: 2-7068-1900-6

Agriculture is a very important sector in Africa, accounting for a high proportion of employment, economic output and exports earnings. Therefore, from the African perspective, agriculture is key to any successful outcome in international trade negotiations. The sector has suffered neglect in recent years, with peasants eking out a living amid falling output and prices. On the contrary, farmers in rich countries continue to enjoy huge subsidies, which enable them to raise output and drive out competition in international markets. This book analyzes the issues at stake in the Doha Round negotiations on agriculture, and argues that a reduction in subsidies is a prerequisite to success.
