BY Andrew Allimadi, ECA, 14 September 2004
The Trade and Regional Integration Division (TRID) of ECA is hosting a joint ECA/World Bank Workshop on Friday 17 September, to review the Banks forthcoming publication titled, "Global Economic Prospects 2005: Trade, Regionalism and Development." The report, to be released early next year, will examine the global experience of regional trade and preferential trade agreements and their impacts on economic development. The report comes soon after TRID published its own study on regional integration in Africa titled: "Assessing Regional Integration in Africa."
At the workshop, Dr. Richard Newfarmer of the World Bank and lead author of the study and Dr. Paul Brenton also of the World Bank, will present the report`s key chapters. There would be a discussant for each presentation and general comments would be solicited from seminar participants. Some of Africas Regional Economic Communities (RECs) and trade experts from the African Union (AU) will also take part in the workshop.
