ECA Awards African Media Achievements at Highway Africa Article

The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), in collaboration with Highway Africa is co-hosting the African Information Society Initiative (AISI) 2004 media awards ceremony in Grahamstown, South Africa.

The Awards, to be broadcasted live on the SABCAfrica channel today at 17:00hrs GMT, will honor achievements by a cross-section of 16 journalists based in Africa. The journalists are attending the largest annual media event in Africa - Highway Africa, which is being held from 16-18 September at Rhodes University, Grahamstown, South Africa.

The winners will receive awards along the categories of print, radio, online local content, research and innovation, ICT policy and ICTs and rural communities. A special "Best Female Reporter" category will also feature.

These awards have been made possible through Development Information Services Division (DISD), with support from International Development Research Centre (IDRC), GTZ, International Institute for Communication and Development (IICD) and Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA).
