Trade Training Begins at ECA

A training session for Economic
Commission for Africa (ECA) staff on the Economics of International Trade and Trade Policy
began today at the Commission's headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The four-day course
was organized by the Commission''''''''s Trade and Regional Integration Division (TRID)
and the Institutional Strengthening Programme (ISP) to keep staff abreast of the latest
academic work on trade. The course is being conducted by Professors Rod Falvey and Chris
Milner from Nottingham University in the United Kingdom, a renown centre of excellence on
international trade issues.
The course is divided into sub-sections covering economic theory and empirical evidence from which policy implications are derived. Topics covered include: Theory and empirical evidence on comparative advantage; trade in imperfectly competitive markets; evidence on new trade models; national trade policies; political economy of protection; structure and measurement of protection; design and limits of trade policy reform; and trade and growth. The course will conclude Wednesday 27 October.
