New Malian ambassador presents credentials to ECA

Addis Ababa, 25 July 2008 (ECA): The new Malian Ambassador to Ethiopia, the African Union and the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), Mr. Amadou N’diaye, today presented his credentials to Abdoulie Janneh, UN Under-Secretary General and Executive Secretary of the ECA, thereby formalizing his role as Mali’s official representative to the Commission.

Mr. Janneh welcomed the new Ambassador and highlighted areas where ECA could play crucial roles at continental, sub-regional and national levels, especially in trade, regional integration, agriculture and food security.

He said ECA’s Sub-Regional Office in West Africa, based in Niamey, was fully mandated to materialize the Commission’s support to Mali and the entire West African sub-region.

Ambassador N’diaye conveyed warmest regard from the President of Mali, noting that his country was committed to strengthening collaboration with ECA.

The Ambassador said he would reinforce cooperation between his country and ECA, and urged the Commission to give technical advice to Mali, especially in the area of food security.
