New Directors for IDEP, ACGS take charge

The new director of the African Institute for Economic Development and Planning (IDEP) Mr. Adebayo Olukoshi resumed duties in Dakar Senegal on 13 May 2009. He replaces Mr. Seck Diery.

Professor of International Political Economy, Mr. Olukoshi led the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs for several years before his most recent appointment as Executive Secretary of the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESTRIA).

Announcing Professor Olukoshi’s appointment, the UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA)  Mr. Abdoulie Janneh, described him as “a well-known African development practitioner … who brings with him valuable experience that will contribute greatly in repositioning IDEP to meet its emerging challenges.”

Established in 1962, IDEP is a subsidiary organ of ECA. Its mandate is to train policy makers and managers to effectively take charge of African development issues by providing advisory services to African governments in the planning of and economic and social development.

In another development, Ms. Monique Rakotomalala also assumed duties on 13 May 2009 as the new Director of ACGS. Ms. Rakotomalala, who is well known to many within the ECA, comes with “a wealth of experience having served as UNFPA Representative to Ethiopia”, according a welcome message by Mr. Janneh.   

He calls on all staff to support the new directors in their new assignments.
