US$10,000 to individual scientists from developing countries who

up to US$10,000 to scientists from developing countries of proven

Parts for Scientific Equipment provides funds for covering

by institutions or individuals in the industrialized countries

- Fellowships
and Associateships: South-South Fellowships supports travel
for visits to scientific institutions within the South for a minimum
period of one month. Living expenses are borne by local sources.
Governments and scientific organizations in 20 developing countries
have agreed to provide local hospitality for over 300 annual visits
under this programme.

- The Third
World Academy of Sciences Fellowships / Academy
and the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR)
of India have instituted two types of fellowships for scientists
of proven ability from developing countries (other than India)
to work in the laboratories of the CSIR in India: Fellowships
for Postdoctoral Research (for 3-12 months), and Fellowships for
Postgraduate Studies for PhD (for 2-3 years).

- The Third
World Academy of Sciences in cooperation with UNESCO instituted
a joint Associateship Scheme in 1994 in collaboration with several
Centres of Excellence in the South to enable active researchers
from the South to visit these centres regularly. Currently over
eighty Centres are participating in this scheme. The aim of the
scheme is to counteract the brain drain by alleviating the problem
of isolation of talented scientists in developing countries, and
strengthen the research programmes of Centres of Excellence in
the South.
