African Networking Initiative (ANI) was a follow-up meeting to
the African Regional Symposium on Telematics for Development, which
took place in Addis Ababa in April 1995. The ANI partners were donor
agencies with networking programmes in Africa (IDRC, ITU, UNECA, UNESCO

The Commission on
Science and Technology for Development (CSTD) provides the General
Assembly and the Economic
and Social Council (ECOSOC) with high quality advice on relevant
issues through analysis and appropriate policy recommendations or
options in order to enable those organs to guide the future work of
the United Nations, develop common policies and agree on appropriate
actions. The Commission acts as a forum for: (a) the examination of
science and technology questions and their implications for development;
(b) the advancement of understanding on science and technology policies,
particularly in respect of developing countries; (c) the formulation
of recommendations and guidelines on science and technology matters
within the United Nations system.

and women and the functional and vocational training of young people.
