The 3rd Ministerial Conference will focus on the identification of additional investments and financial flows to address the climate change mitigation and adaptation challenges. It will also assess the impact of climate change on the growth agenda and the Millennium Development Goals. The theme of the Conference is “Climate Change– Financing Opportunities and Challenges to achieve MDGs in Africa”
The Government of Rwanda will host the next High Level Forum of Financing for Development from May 21-22, 2009 at the Kigali Serena Hotel
The Kigali Conference will be an opportunity to consider together the strategic issues facing the African Continent: different financing efforts need to be reconciled in a sound legal framework to secure the emergence of carbon markets, investments and long-term policy results.
The following issues are focusing on :
- The status of post-Gleneagles commitments and follow up action from the Bali Conference;
- Mainstreaming climate change issues into all aspects of policy development and planning for poverty reduction at national and regional levels; and
- Reform of the carbon market by finding ways to support African countries to access the new Climate Investment Funds and innovative financing mechanisms.
