.This note is intended to provide you with relevant information to make your travel to Kigali and participation in the event very enjoyable and hassle-free. VENUE: The conference on “Financing for Development” will be held from 21 to 22 May 2009 at the Serena Hotel in the Board Room, 2 nd Floor . The Serena Hotel is located in the Center of town at / Avenue de l'Armée, Kigali , Rwanda . The Hotel is within walking distance of Shops, Restaurants, the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning VISA REQUIREMENTS AND HEALTH FORMALITIES: Passport and Visas : All foreign visitors entering Kigali must be in possession of a valid passport (with minimum validity of 6 months) and visa. All participants are encouraged to obtain a visa to Rwanda before travel. All participants coming from countries with Rwanda Embassy should obtain their Visas from the same Embassy. Those that are coming from countries with out our representative should submit the Visa requirements in time to the respective address. Health Formalities: All participants are required to possess a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate. Entry Requirements Applicants holding national passports from USA, Germany, Canada, Tanzania, Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, South Africa, Kenya, Great Britain, Sweden, Mauritius, Hong Kong and Burundi do not need entry visas due to the bilateral agreement that Rwanda has with these countries.
If participants are not within convenient distance of one of the embassies listed above and are not from one of the countries listed above as not requiring a visa, they may fill out an “Entry Facility application” online. This will enable the applicant to receive a single entry visa of 15 days for the cost of US$60 at the airport or any other entry points. The entry application is obtained through the Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration website www.migration.gov.rw under the section “Entry Facility”, click on “Apply for an Entry Facility Online.” Complete the entry facility application form, and then click on “Send this Application.” The form can also be found at http://www.migration.gov.rw/EntryFacility/entryfacility_form.php . Note: Filling the email address section is obligatory. Completion of the online entry facility form will allow the airline carriers to bring passengers without the entry visa. ARRIVAL All participants should arrive in Kigali no later than the evening of Wednesday 20 th May 2009. The main gateway to Rwanda is through Kigali International Airport located in the suburb of Kanombe, at the eastern edge of Kigali , approximately 12 kilometers (7.2 mi) from the city centre. Please click here for Hotel iinformation. Upon arrival, there will be transport services free of charge. However you have to notify whether you require transport or not, on the registration form. ACCOMMODATION: Room reservations for all participants have been made at the Serena Hotel . Accommodation for Ministers or their representatives will be covered by the organisers. Buffet breakfast and lunch: Breakfast is included in the room rate. Buffet lunches for each of the meeting days have been pre-arranged at the Serena Hotel . Please wear your meeting badge so that you can be easily identified by the restaurant attendants. Airtickets: Participants will pay for air tickets and allowances for themselves. TIME ZONE: Kigali Standard Time is GMT + 2 hours (GMT+2). WEATHER: May is during rainy season. The average temperature in Kigali in May is between 24 – 28 º Celsius . CURRENCY Rwandan Franc (RWF): The exchange rate is as follow 1 US Dollar = 568 Rwandan Francs, 1 Euro = 739 Rwandan Francs. You will find a Bureau de Change at the airport and the hotel. Banks in Kigali are open from 08.30 hrs to 17.00 hrs on Mondays through Fridays, excluding public and bank holidays. TELEPHONE/FAX/INTERNET CONNECTION: Any phone calls and outgoing fax messages will be charged to the hotel bill, for which you are responsible. MISCELLANEOUS EXPENSES: The organizers will not be responsible for extra room costs such as internet, laundry, telephone calls, mini bar, room service, and transport costs, among others.
