on Best Practices in Small-Scale Mining in Africa
Small-scale
mining is increasingly gaining momentum in Africa.
However, it is largely practiced in rural areas
by those who lack the requisite education, training,
management skills, essential equipment and financial
resources. Although this type of mining is far from
achieving its full potential, there are indications
of positive efforts by individual countries to promote
the sector. The report presents examples of how
the sector can be promoted to insure its positive
contribution to the establishment of sustainable
community life and rural economic development.
