PRESS BRIEF

 

The Governance and Public Administration Division of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), the United Nations Development Program Regional Bureau for Africa (UNDP-RBA) and the Subregional Office for Central Africa (SRO-CA) of the ECA, will be organizing a training workshop for National Anti-corruption Institutions (NACIs) on the theme: “Fighting Corruption in the Central African Subregion.” The workshop will take place in Yaoundé, Republic of Cameroon, from 20 to 22 October 2010.

The overarching objective of the Workshop is to strengthen the region’s capacity through pedagogy, peer-learning, experience sharing and showcasing best practices.  The training workshop will provide an opportunity to discuss issues related to:

(a) the state of corruption in Central Africa and the continent generally;
(b) the status of anti-corruption institutions in Central Africa and the continent;
(c) the operations of NACIs in Central Africa; and
(d) identify ways and means of improving the capacity and efficiency of NACIs in Central Africa.

Participants will be heads and staff of NACIs in Central African countries including Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, the Republic of  Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Rwanda and Sao Tome and Principe. 

At the end of the training, participants are expected to be able to call for reforms aimed at making the work of NACIs more effective. They are also expected to be more familiar with techniques for better collaboration with law enforcement agencies and the judiciary, the media and other stakeholders.
