eLearning Capacity Building Workshop for ISTD Staff

:: News

A week long e-learning capacity building workshop was conducted at the Information Technology Centre for Africa (ITCA) from August 13 – 17, 2007.

The workshop aimed at developing the capacity of ISTD staff engaged on the development and maintenance of an online learning system.

ITCA staff has worked virtually with the a team of experts from the Blended Learning Centre (BLC) of the Canadian School of Public Services (CSPS) over the last seven months on the development of a prototype for an ICT Policies and e-Strategies online course. This workshop was intended to wrap up the ongoing discussion and build the capacity of ISTD staff on the instructional design process that would enable the team to undertake development of online courses in the future.

A team of highly experienced experts who were directly involved on the design, development and maintenance of the CampusDirect online learning management system provided the training. This eLearning system was designed to build capacity of employees in the public service and managed by the Canadian School of Public Services (CSPS) (http://www.campusdirect.gc.ca/)

The modules covered on the virtual instructional design work include: defining the need, target audience analysis, defining technical requirements, content analysis, developing objectives and instructional plan development.

The core topics discussed in the workshop were: project management, instructional planning, project charter, courseware design standard considerations, storyboarding, development, testing and implementation planning.

A thorough discussion of storyboarding accompanied by a well guided activity was also part of the workshop.

The workshop was organized by ISTD with the support of the Africa Node of the Global ePolicy Resource Network (ePol-NET) and Canadian e-Policy Resource Centre (CePRC) and the Government of Japan.
