The Information Technology Centre for Africa (ITCA) of DISD/ECA in partnership with PEOPLink provided an e-commerce workshop from 14-18 May 2004. The workshop was conducted using the CatGen Software, a general-purpose web catalog building tool that allow small to medium-sized businesses (SMEs) to deploy both B2B and B2C e-commerce web sites. The workshop was attended by 12 participants representing different SMEs selected from the Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce, representatives from Ministry of Trade and Industry and Trade and Industry Bureau of Nefas Silk Lafto, one of the recently organized sub-cities under Addis Ababa City Administrations including selected staff from ECA.
The objective of the training was to train participants on how to use the CatGen Software to create their own e-commerce site and build products catalog and promote their business online over the Internet. Participants were provided with basic ICT and Internet use training by ITCA, and utilization of CatGen by Dr. Daniel Salcedo founder and CEO of PEOPLink. Consequently, participants were equipped with the necessary skills that would enable them create real sites and develop product catalogs.
Participants are expected to promote network of businesses in Ethiopia and beyond by forging partnerships with PEOPLink and join the more than 200,000 traders from 42 countries who are currently posting more than 20,000 items and services using the CatGen Software.. |
