African Union

The African Union was officially launched in Durban, South Africa, on 9 July 2002 to replace the Organisation of African Unity. Its structure is based loosely on that of the European Union. The African Union upholds the sovereign equality and independence of its 53 member states and aims to promote peace, security and solidarity on the African continent.

African Development Bank Group

The African Development Bank Group is a multinational development bank supported by 77 nations (member countries) from Africa, North and South America, Europe and Asia. Established in 1964, its mission is to promote economic and social development through loans, equity investments, and technical assistance.

Africa Action

Africa Action is the oldest organization in the U.S. working on African affairs. Our mission is to change U.S. Africa relations to promote political, economic and social justice in Africa. We provide accessible information and analysis and we mobilize popular support for campaigns to achieve this mission.

Africa Action: Resources and Information

These resources analyze U.S. relations with Africa, particularly on the key issues of our campaigns. They help promote U.S. policies that respond to Africa’s challenges and support African struggles for peace, development and human rights. The resources we produce also reveal and challenge the system of global apartheid that keeps Africa poor and marginalized.

Africa Policy Information Center (APIC): APIC's primary objective is to widen the policy debate in the United States around African issues and the U.S. role in Africa, by concentrating on providing accessible policy-relevant information and analysis usable by a wide range of groups and individuals.

African Studies: Duke University Libraries

The Office of the Special Adviser on Africa (OSAA)

The Office of the Special Adviser on Africa (OSAA) promotes international support for peace and development in Africa through its advocacy, through facilitating intergovernmental deliberations on Africa, including particularly NEPAD, at the global level and through assisting the Secretary-General to further a coherent UN system's support for Africa.

Commonwealth Secretariat

Integrated Regional Information Networks (IRIN)

Integrated Regional Information Networks (IRIN), part of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). IRIN, which was born out of the 1994 crisis in the Great Lakes region of central Africa, pioneered the use of e-mail and web technology to deliver and receive information to and from some of the most remote and underdeveloped places in Africa, cheaply and efficiently.
