African Media and ICT4D: Documentary Evidence

This study was commissioned by ECA with support from OSIWA . Roland Stanbridge, Director of the MA in Global Journalism, Department of Media Studies, Örebro University, Sweden, conducted and co-authored the study with Maria Ljunggren, Research Assistant in the Department. Eighteen journalists and media researchers in the nine survey countries conducted the daily media monitoring over a period of two months.

The Media Status Report (MSR): A new source of information for network members.

The goal of the reports is to provide network members with up-to-date, detailed country reports on the media. Each report contains information on the main stakeholders, types of donor support and suggestions for future action. These reports provide directions for future donor activities and facilitate the identification of projects. (They are not intended to take the place of feasibility studies for specific activities.). The website hosts reports from the following African countries: Benin, Burundi, Cameroon, Chad, Ethiopia, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Niger and Togo.

Media and governance training modules

The Regional Governance Programme for Asia (PARAGON - prat of the United Nations Development Program) publishes a training module based on a Southeast Asia subregional training seminars on electoral, political and conflict reporting held in Cambodia.

The Media and Society Foundation is a non-profit organization founded in Geneva, Switzerland, by a group of media professionals, with the support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), in Bern.

Partners for Media in Africa

The ParMA network was created in December 1995 at a donors' meeting in Paris about supporting the media in developing countries. Participants at the meeting decided to create an informal network of donors that would meet regularly to exchange information on the media in Africa.
