African Youth Charter - a benchmark for youth development in Africa
The African Youth Charter, adopted by the Heads of State at the African Union (AU) Summit in Banjul, Gambia earlier this month, is intended to serve as a guide and a framework to fast-track implementation of comprehensive youth policies and strategies that would empower young people to take advantage of increasing opportunities.
African Youth Leadership Week
April 11-17 has been declared as Africa Youth Leadership Week. The week, which will be observed annually, is being commemorated as part of activities to implement the Decade for Youth Leadership Development in Africa, tagged FFI-LeadNext, 2005-2014.
African Youth Network Across Borders
The Nairobi-based African Youth Parliament is a network of young people in more than 45 countries committed to African development. Tackling such problems as AIDS, post-war reconstruction and poverty, members are reaching out to fellow youth in an attempt to create a brighter future for their countries and continent. We, representatives of youth organizations of the African Union Member States, meeting on 22-24 May 2006 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to participate to the Pan African Youth Forum, have considered and adopted the draft African Youth Charter, the draft strategy for the popularization of the Charter, and the draft strategy for the revitalization of the Pan African Youth Union

African Regional Youth Initiative (ARYI)
The African Regional Youth Initiative (ARYI) is an organization comprised of hundreds of youth and community-based initiatives across Africa addressing social, economic and political injustice. The primary focus of the organization is on HIV/AIDS due to its widespread impact on the continent and around the world. ARYI addresses HIV/AIDS in a comprehensive manner by engaging in activities that mobilize and empower communities, increase women and youth participation, facilitate dialogue between organizations in different countries and other activities that build capacity such as training in policy and advocacy.
African Youth Alliance (AYA)
AYA was a five-year initiative to improve adolescent reproductive health and reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS in Botswana, Ghana, Uganda, and Tanzania.
Through the Alliance, young people were educated about HIV/AIDS prevention and provided with necessary information, skills, and support to protect their health.
The African Youth Alliance was an innovative partnership led by three organizations: Pathfinder International, The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and The Program for Appropriate Technology in Health (PATH).
African Youth Development Foundation
AFRYDEF envisions a society where youth, children and women are seen as assets and resources, and are thus encouraged to develop their full potentials.
Commonwealth Youth Programme Africa Centre
The Commonwealth Youth Programme Africa Centre is located in Lusaka, Zambia and is one of four Centres established to serve the member countries of the Commonwealth. The Africa Centre responds to youth development for 21 countries of the Commonwealth including Cyprus, Malta, and United Kingdom. These 21 countries together have a total population of 347, 339, 251 million people.

European Commission Youth Programme
The YOUTH programme is the EU’s mobility and non-formal education programme targeting young people aged between 15 and 25 years. The Programme is open to youth in 31 European countries. The YOUTH programme offers possibilities to young people in the form of both group exchanges and individual voluntary work, as well as support activities. The YOUTH programme started in spring 2000 but incorporates, and is based on, the experiences faced by the former Youth for Europe and European Voluntary Service programmes.

The 21st Century African Youth Movement
The 21st Century African Youth Movement is charitable organization that seeks to bring people and resources together to address social issues in Africa. AYM focuses on a couple of areas:
The first is organizing Africa’s youth initiatives to collectively pursue a culture of peace, justice and human rights in Africa.
Second, encouraging and fostering partnerships among Africa’s youth.
Third, Africa’s youth collaborating with youth from varied nationalities. Finally, African youth Participating in the affairs of their communities and vigorously supporting the vision of the African Union and the New Initiative for Africa’s Development (NEPAD).
The United Nations Youth Summit Series
Beginning with a series of regional youth leadership summits, young leaders are being mobilized to join the efforts towards achieving the MDGs and to raise the voices of the next generation. There have been regional summits in Africa, Asia and the Pacific, and Latin America and the Caribbean. The global summit will not mark the end of our efforts, but the midway point in reaching out to other regions and strengthening the current wave of youth MDG activities around the world.
United Nations Youth Association: Grow your own UNYA!
United Nations Youth Associations are a great way to teach about the United Nations, and get other youth involved in understanding and sharing the ideals enshrined in the UN Charter. UNYAs are usually youth wings of United Nations Associations (UNAs), which currently exist in around 100 countries worldwide. The organizations provide the fertile ground for youth empowerment, education, networking, and also have social components that combine to be a lot of fun and present excellent development opportunities!

Youth at the United Nations
Our programme is the focal point on youth within the United Nations. It aims to build an awareness of the global situation of young people, as well as promote their rights and aspirations. The UN Programme on Youth also works towards greater participation of young people in decision-making as a means of achieving peace and development.
We are part of the Social Integration Branch, which falls within the Division for Social Policy and Development of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA).
Youth in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Annual Conference
This conference will focus on issues facing youth (12-24 years) in the MENA region, especially those related to their economic prospects and potentials. It is also intended to highlight their needs in urban areas, the characteristics of urban environments that suit them and the roles of urban authorities in tackling youth issues.
