The twelfth Session of the Regional Coordination Mechanism of UN agencies and organizations working in Africa in support of the African Union and its NEPAD programme (RCM-Africa) will be held at the United Nations Conference Centre (UNCC) in Addis Ababa, from 21-22 November 2011, under the theme of 'Capacity Building'.
The meeting is expected to result in key recommendations to strengthen coordination and coherence in the delivery of UN system capacity-building support to the AU and its NPCA and the RECs, at the regional, sub regional and national levels, particularly, in the context of the implementation of the Ten Year Capacity Building Programme for the African Union (TYCBP-AU).

UN - AU TYCBUN – AU Hold Retreat on Ten-Year Capacity Building Programme
Addis Ababa, 10 September 2011 (ECA) - The United Nations in Ethiopia and the African Union Commission held a three-day retreat from 7 – 9 September on accelerating the UN-AU Ten-Year Capacity Building Programme. The programme was signed in 2006 between the UN and AU and a review of its implementation was conducted last year that called for the elaboration of more specific programmes of support. The retreat took place in Debre-Zeit, Ethiopia, attended by directors and senior staff from all UN agencies working in Ethiopia, and from the African Union Commission and the NEPAD Coordination Agency.

The Experts Group Meeting on Coordinating Development in Africa & Joint Regional Economic Communities (REC) / Intergovernmental organizations(IGOs)/UN Task Force Meeting on the Operationalization of the Sub regional Coordination Mechanism (SRCM), will be held 4- 6 July 2011 at the United Nations Conference Center(UNCC), Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Governance Cluster Strategic Planning and Regular Meeting
The Governance Cluster of RCM-Africa will organize its first regular meeting of the year 2011 back to back with strategic planning session in Hotel Maya, Nazareth, Ethiopia, on 27-28th June, 2011. The objective of the meeting is to bring the Cluster members together and to provide a platform for joint planning and programming so as to ensure coordinated and coherent support to the governance initiatives of the AUC and NPCA.

Africa Regional Media Dialogue: The Role of Media in Africa’s Development
The Second Regional Media Dialogue (RMDII) under the theme “the Role of the Media in Africa’s Development” was organized by the Advocacy and Communication Cluster (ACC) of RCM-Africa from 07-10 June 2011 in Maseru, Kingdom of Lesothoto. The objective of the event was to increase understanding of and support for African Union development priorities through its NEPAD programme by engaging the media as partner in Africa’s development and encouraging it to provide greater publicity of NEPAD activities implemented in the region . The Media Dialogue was the first UN meeting to be organized in the Kingdom of Lesotho.

16th Africa Partnership Forum (APF)
The 16th Africa Partnership Forum (APF), under the theme ’Economic growth, investment and job creation’ took place on 20 and 21 April 2011, at OECD Headquarters in Paris, France. The objective of the meeting was to discuss the issues around economic growth, investment and job creation and how to catalyze support from partners for Africa’s development. More>>

NEPAD Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Ibrahim Mayaki, opens Joint ECA-NPCA Technical Team meeting
The Chief Executive Officer of the NEPAD Planning and Coordinating Agency, Dr. Ibrahim Mayaki, opened the joint ECA-NPCA Technical Team meeting that took place at the United Nations Conference Center in Addis Ababa on 23 May 2011. Dr. Mayaki thanked ECA for its continued support to NPCA, and especially for the assistance in preparing the strategic documents of the Agency which were now fully operational. He also commended the leadership of Africa's three main continental organizations, namely, ECA, African Union, and African Development Bank for their determination to harmonise development efforts on the continent.
The main objective of the joint ECA-NPCA Technical Team meeting was to develop a multi-year programme of ECA support to NPCA. The programme is aimed at operationalising a memorandum of understanding signed between the two organizations in April 2010. The meeting was Co-chaired by Mr. Emmanuel Nnadozie, Director of the Economic Development and NEPAD Division of ECA and Mr. Bankole Adeoye, Chief of Staff of NPCA.

Meeting of the Social and Human Development Cluster
The second meeting of the Social and Human Development Cluster of the Regional Coordination Mechanism for Africa (RCM-Africa) coordinated by International Labour Organization (ILO) will be held on Thursday 12 May 2011, at the Peace and Security Department of African Union Commission. The opening remark will be given by the Department of Social Affairs Commissioner, H.E Ms Bience Gawanas. The major issue to be discussed is the finalization of a three year Business Plan of the Cluster.

Seventh Meeting of the UN Science and Technology Cluster in Support of the AU/CPA Implementation
The Science and Technology Cluster of the Regional Coordination Mechanism for Africa (RCM- Africa) in Support of the AU and its NEPAD Programme will organize its seventh meeting on Friday 6th May 2011 at the United Nations Conference Center, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The meeting will discuss various issues related to implementation of the recommendations of the 11th Session of RCM- Africa by the Cluster, challenges faced in implementing the Consolidated Plan of Action for Science, Technology and Innovation, as well as the Cluster Business and Work plans.

Round table on "Equal access to education, training and S&T: pathway to decent work”
The African Centre for Gender and Social Development (ACGS/UNECA), ICT and Science and Technology Division (ISTD/UNECA) and UN Women and the Gender Sub-Cluster of the Regional Coordination Mechanism for Africa (RCM-Africa) will organize a Roundtable discussion during the meeting of the Committee on Development Information Science and Technology (CODIST) taking place from 2nd to 5th May in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on the International Women's Day Theme on May 4th. The Study on Mainstreaming Gender in STI in East African Community undertaken by Dr. Rose Ogwang Odhiambo of Egerton University Njoro, Kenya will be discussed by the Panel.
