Twelfth Session of the Regional Coordination Mechanism of UN
Agencies and Organizations Working in Africa (RCM-Africa) in Support of the African Union and its NEPAD Programme
Addis Ababa, 21 November 2011 (ECA) - The Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ms Asha-Rose Migiro, today opened the twelfth session of the Regional Coordination Mechanism (RCM), with a strong message of support for Africa and its people from United Nations Secretary-General Mr. Ban Ki-Moon.
General Assembly resolution 57/7 of 4 November 2002 called upon the United Nations system organizations, within their respective mandates, to “align their activities in Africa with the priorities of the New Partnership” as well as “to organize the activities of the United Nations system around thematic clusters covering the priority areas of the New Partnership". The resolution further urged the strengthening of this process as a means of enhancing a coordinated response of the United Nations system in support of the New Partnership.
