African Ministers responsible for population and development
have reaffirmed their strong commitment to the Programme
of Action adopted ten years ago at the International
Conference on Population and Development (ICPD), stressing
that the Millennium Development Goals could not be achieved
unless the programme was fully implemented. |

A three-day brainstorming session by the Academia Research
Network (ARN) on the Information Society opened today in Addis
Ababa at ECAs Development Information Services Division
(DISD). The meeting aims to consider research topics that
could enhance the development of the African Information Society
and establish conditions to launch sub-regional networks of
ARN.

Holds First Stakeholder Meeting

The African Trade Policy Centre (ATPC) held its first stakeholder
meeting in Tunis, Tunisia on 30 April 2004. The aim of the meeting
was to bring together several international agencies working
on trade issues in Africa, national and sub-regional users of
trade support services, and donor agencies to review activities
of the Centre and discuss synergies between various programmes.

Economic Report on Africa 2003
Accelerating
the pace of development.
The Economic Report on Africa 2003 is the fourth
in an annual series that reviews the continents economic performance
and near-term prospects. Targeted to African and global policymakers, the
reports are meant to stimulate discussion and change. This
year's report examines how Africa can achieve growth rates necessary to
attain the Millennium Development Goals. It ranks African countries based
on the performance of macroeconomic, poverty reduction, and institution
building policies, using an ECA-designed Expanded Policy Stance Index.

The Secretary-General
has prepared a comprehensive policy report of action-oriented proposals
on all issues within the financing for development agenda. The
64 page report has 87 recommendations for consideration by governments.
