The Global POPIN is established by and within the United Nations Population Division under the support of UNFPA. As a decentralised community of population institutions organised into global, regional and national networks, POPIN strives to make population information from all levels of sources including the United Nations easily available to everyone.
The UN Population
Division is responsible for providing the international community
with up-to-date and scientifically objective information on population
and development. The Population Division provides guidance to the
United Nations General Assembly, Economic and Social Council and the
Commission on Population and Development on population and development
issues and undertakes regular studies on population levels, trends,
population estimates and projections, population policies and population
and development interrelationships.
UNFPA helps developing countries find solutions to their population problems. It is the largest international source of population assistance. About a quarter of all population assistance from donor nations to developing countries is channelled through UNFPA. The Fund has three main programme areas: Reproductive Health including Family Planning and Sexual Health, Population and Development Strategies and Advocacy.
