| African Census Analysis Project (ACAP) |
As a collaborative
initiative between the University of Pennsylvania and African institutions
specializing in demographic research and training, this project pursues
three specific aims: archiving of African census data, research collaboration
with African researchers and demographic capacity strengthening in Africa. |
| African Population Database Documentation |
Developed by
the National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis (NCGIA), University
of California, under the support of the UNEP/Global Resource Information
Database (UNEP/GRID) and the World Resources Institute (WRI), this on-line
database provides a compilation of population data from various sources,
accompanied by documentation on methodologies. |
| Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) |
As a programme
established today at the Macro International Inc., MEASURE DHS+ assists
developing countries worldwide in the collection and use of data to monitor
and evaluate population, health, and nutrition programs. DHS+ provides
information on family planning, maternal and child health, child survival,
HIV/AIDS/STIs, and reproductive health. |
| ECA -SDD, Population Related Data |
Africa specific
data on population size, fertility, mortality, migration, women
and data on the status of the implementation of the ICPD-PA. Data come
from international sources and data collected by the ECA. |

This site of
ELDIS (the Electronic Development and Environment Information System)
provides a collection of indicators used in various areas, e.g. human
development, sustainable development, social and economic development
etc., that are published by international agencies. |
| FAOSTAT |
FAOSTAT is an
on-line and multilingual database of the Food and Agriculture Organization
(FAO) of the United Nations containing time-series records of international
statistics in the areas of agricultural and food production, food aid
and trade, food balance, land and irrigation, fertilizer, machinery etc.. |
| Global Statistics |
The Global Statistics,
the site of GeoHive, deals with statistics on the human population
by region, country, province or city. It also provides some statistics
on economic factors like wealth, infrastructure etc.. |
| Global Urban Indicators Database |
The Global Urban
Indicators Database of the United Nations Centre for Human Settlements
(Habitat) is a wealth of information on urban population, economics, environment,
infrastructure, services, housing and local authorities. It contains more
than 20,000 pieces of information on the state of cities world-wide. It
includes only city level data and indicators, encompassing a large number
of urban development issues with a main focus on the physical conditions
of cities. The Urban Indicators Programme and the Best Practice and Local Leadership Programme (BLP), together,
make up the Global
Urban Observatory, a UNCHS
(Habitat)'s facility for monitoring and evaluating the implementation
of the Habitat
Agenda and Agenda 21.

| HIV/AIDS Surveillance Data Base (US Bureau of the Census) |
The HIV/AIDS
Surveillance Data Base was developed and is maintained by the Health
Studies Branch, International Programs Center (IPC), Population Division,
U.S. Bureau of the Census, with funds from the U.S. Agency for International
Development. It is a compilation of information from those studies appearing
in the medical and scientific literature, presented at international conferences,
and appearing in the press. The data base was developed on the microcomputer
for portability and has a user-friendly interface. |

The International
Data Base (IDB) site hosted by the US Census Bureau is a computerized
data bank containing statistical tables of demographic, and socio-economic
data for 227 countries and areas of the world. |

Walter Clinton
Jackson Library of the University of North Carolina Greensboro (UNCG)
hosts this site on international statistics that compiles links to various
on-line sources of data and information on population, health, socio-economic
development, agriculture, etc. |
| OECD Development Indicators |
As
a major step towards concerted international action for development, the
OECD, the United Nations and the World Bank have agreed to focus on a
series of key goals, endorsed by major international conferences, in partnership
with developing countries. A system for tracking progress has also been
agreed. This site explains the core set of indicators that will be used
- at a global level - to monitor performance and adjust development strategies
as required. It provides regional and country progress charts, links to
maps on the development goals website and to data sources for all indicators
in the core set. |

The United Nations
Statistics Division (UNSD) provides a wide range of statistical outputs
and services for producers and users of statistics worldwide. These on-line
databases give users electronic access to statistical data (demographic,
economic, social, environmental) and methods. |
| U.S. Census Bureau International Data Base |
The
International Data Base (IDB) is a computerized data bank containing statistical
tables of demographic, and socio-economic data for 227 countries and areas
of the world. |
| WHO Statistical Information System (WHOSIS) |
This
WHOSIS website provides to the extent possible access to statistical and
epidemiological data and information presently available from the World
Health Organization and elsewhere in electronic or other forms. It allows
the user to search by keywords through the entire WHO website, and globally
throughout the WWW. |
| World Bank Data |
This site of
the World Bank Group contains statistical data and maps in a varied range
of development issues, searchable by country/region or topic/indicator. |
| World Population Prospects Population Database |
Designed by the
United Nations Population Division, this on-line database gives access
to the electronic data from the 2000 Revision of the United Nations official
world population estimates and projections. |
