Global Urban Indicators Database

The Global Urban Indicators Database of the United Nations Centre for Human Settlements (Habitat) is a wealth of information on urban population, economics, environment, infrastructure, services, housing and local authorities. It contains more than 20,000 pieces of information on the state of cities world-wide. It includes only city level data and indicators, encompassing a large number of urban development issues with a main focus on the physical conditions of cities. The Urban Indicators Programme and the Best Practice and Local Leadership Programme (BLP), together, make up the Global Urban Observatory, a UNCHS (Habitat)'s facility for monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the Habitat Agenda and Agenda 21.

HIV/AIDS Surveillance Data Base (US Bureau of the Census)

The HIV/AIDS Surveillance Data Base was developed and is maintained by the Health Studies Branch, International Programs Center (IPC), Population Division, U.S. Bureau of the Census, with funds from the U.S. Agency for International Development. It is a compilation of information from those studies appearing in the medical and scientific literature, presented at international conferences, and appearing in the press. The data base was developed on the microcomputer for portability and has a user-friendly interface.

OECD Development Indicators

As a major step towards concerted international action for development, the OECD, the United Nations and the World Bank have agreed to focus on a series of key goals, endorsed by major international conferences, in partnership with developing countries. A system for tracking progress has also been agreed. This site explains the core set of indicators that will be used - at a global level - to monitor performance and adjust development strategies as required. It provides regional and country progress charts, links to maps on the development goals website and to data sources for all indicators in the core set.
