AfDB Annual meeting

Marrakech

The theme for the 2013 event is “Africa’s Structural Transformation”. Mr. Lopes will be speaking on ‘Infrastructure and Regional Integration for Africa’s structural Transformation’. The gathering will review the Bank’s 2012 operations and its 2013 development funding portfolio, as well as challenges facing the African region in key areas such as climate change, infrastructure, private sector and governance.

The aim of this conference is to promote a debate on further possibilities of economic integration among African states and also to discuss a coordinated approach towards Africa by international actors.

Mr. Lopes will be speaking on the theme “Rousseau, Rio and the Green Economy”. The Conference is under the theme, "The objectives of sustainable development post-2015: Towards a new social contract".


 New York Forum on Africa

Libreville

Mr. Lopes will be a guest speaker at the event. This event will bring together business and political leaders to engage in intense, collaborative sessions to draw up a road map as a guide and spur to action. The outcomes will form part of a communiqué for the G8 summit.

AUC FAO Lula Institute Event on Food Security

Addis Ababa

This high-level meeting with African and International Leaders will be on the theme “New, unified approaches to end hunger in Africa” and will be used to learn from the experiences of Brazil as well as draft strategies for agro industrial production

 4th Global review of Aid for Trade

Geneva

Mr. Lopes will moderate a session on ‘Aid For Trade, Value Chains And Intra-Afarican Trade’. The aim of this 4th review is to examine strategies to connect developing countries and LDC firms to international value chains, how to move up the value chain and discuss the associated development benefits in the context of the debate about post 2015 development agenda.
