Welcome to the RTPC website

The Regular Programme of Technical Cooperation (RPTC) was established by General Assembly resolution 58(I) in 1946 with a view to providing the United Nations with flexibility to respond to urgent needs of developing countries in technical assistance when funding from other parts of the regular budget is not available. Since then the mandate of the Programme has evolved and it is increasingly used to support the efforts of the developing countries to achieve international development goals, including the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), in the context of a broader development agenda. However, the demand driven nature of the Programme remains its strong and distinct feature.

How does RPTC benefit member States of the Regional Commissions?

The RPTC is an important component of the Regional Commissions’ technical cooperation, which builds on their normative and analytical work and feeds into the intergovernmental dialogue. It enables the Regional Commission to respond to requests from their respective member States in addressing emerging needs and providing urgent technical assistance, utilizing the Regional Commissions’ multi-disciplinary strength.
