Objectives

The objectives of the cluster are based on the NEPAD priority areas whose content is consistent with the MDGs, UNGASS, and the Abuja Declaration.

Priority areas:

  • Enable the UN system to have a coordinated and coherent input into NEPAD and to advance the adoption of partner best practices including aid pooling and long term support based on mutual accountability.

  • Identify priority areas as the basis for collective action at national and regional levels.

  • Establish and operate joint monitoring systems, consonant with the MDGs and NEPAD principles of peer review and mutual accountability;

  • Devise institutional mechanisms for interface with NEPAD.

  • To identify at least one NEPAD-related pilot project in RECs.

  • To expand TOR of Health Desk at RECs to include other social sector concerns

  • To mainstream HIV/AIDS into all NEPAD sectoral programmes.

  • To work with other clusters on joint action to address the impact of the Brain Drain.

  • To promote gender mainstreaming in all the cluster activities.
