  • Third Coordination Session

This third session of UN Energy/Africa was held in conjunction with the African Regional Implementation Meeting (ARIM) for the preparation of the 14th session of the UN Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD-14) . This third session of UN Energy/Africa included a joint session with UN Energy (global) and a separate session of UN Energy/Africa.

UN Energy (global) held a separate meeting on October 24, UN Energy and UN Energy/Africa held the joint session on October 25 (see report of the joint meeting), and UN Energy/Africa had a separate meeting on October 27 (see report of the meeting ).

Activity Statement UNEA Meeting
Date November/4/2004
Venue Addis-Ababa
Objectives To review and adopt the work programme
Specific activities · Review progress in the collaboration of agencies;
· discuss and adopt the work programme on the basis of concept notes prepared by lead agencies;
· discuss any other relevant collaboration matters
Outcomes ·The collaboration in energy is making good progress
· Some activities (UNDP/GEF, UNEP/ECA) have started
· 10 Concept notes of projects of the work plan were presented and discussed
· Work plan was adopted

Follow-up Promote UNEA with other UN-agencies not represented yet, Seek involvement of non-UN organizations and participation AU/NEPAD for the next meetings

Activity Statement UNEA Launching Meeting
Date May/27/2004
Venue Addis-Ababa
Objectives To establish the UN energy collaborative arrangement's Terms of Reference and UN Support to NEPAD.
Specific activities Define
· Membership criteria;
· Modalities of coordination/interaction within the mechanism and collectively with non-UN stakeholders;
· Frequency, duration, venue of meetings;
· Reporting/relationship to inter-governmental bodies, UN-Energy.
· Chairmanship Meeting
Outcomes · Created UN-Energy/Africa and adopted its terms of reference.
· It requested UNIDO to chair UNEnergy/Africa and invited UNEP to serve as Vice Chair
· requested UNECA to serve as a secretariat,
· UNEnergy/Africa will serve as the UN Sub-cluster on energy within the NEPAD Infrastructure Cluster.
