DAY ONE: Monday 26 June 2000: Morning Sessions
I: Opening Session
9:15 9:30 Meeting Approach, Objectives and Expected Outcomes.

II: Collaborative Actions by UN System Agencies in Africa.
This session will include presentations (of about ten minutes each) followed by general discussions on the collaborative actions by UN system agencies in the four sectors identified in the 8 May 2000 letter of invitation to agencies. These include education, health, governance, and information technology. In addition to briefly stating what was achieved last year, each presentation should be forward looking and indicate the activities planned for the coming year as well as the benchmarks for monitoring progress in implementing these activities. This will be based on the "issue note" to be prepared by agency (or agencies) leading the collaborative efforts in this sector. Suggestions on the scope and content of each "issue note" are included in the Background Note for the Regional Consultation that was dispatched along with the letter of invitation dated 8 May 2000.

II: Collaborative Action by UN System Agencies in Africa .continued)

This session includes presentations and discussions on the water sector where significant progress has been achieved over the past year in arriving at a common understanding around a strategic vision for collaborative action by UN system agencies working in this sector in Africa.

III: Cluster Breakout Sessions: First Set

This is the first, of the two, set of Breakout Sessions involving small parallel meetings. The parallel sessions will be on Education and Governance.
These sessions are designed to provide agencies an opportunity to exchange views on the scope and content of the collaborative sector activities to be undertaken during the coming one or two years; agree on benchmarks to monitor progress in this regard; and discuss any outstanding implementation issues that deserve attention. Each breakout session will be chaired by the agency (or agencies) leading the collaborative efforts in the respective sector.

DAY TWO: Tuesday 27 June 2000 Morning Sessions
IV: Cluster Breakout Sessions: Second Set

The second set of the Breakout Sessions will be on Health and Information Technology. These sessions and will follow the same working method as those held on Day One.

V: Reports by Breakout Sessions

This session will include brief reports from the breakout sessions.
VI: Open Plenary Session on Other Sectors

This session will start with a brief presentation and discussion on a draft Operational Framework for Diversification of African Economies prepared by UNCTAD.
The session will also be opened for brief presentations and exchange of information by other agencies on approaches and activities in any other sectors that agencies working in that sector may have identified for intensified join action with other UN system partners.

DAY TWO: Tuesday 27 June 2000 Afternoon Sessions
VII: Second African Development Forum: AIDS: The Greatest Leadership Challenge

This session will include a presentation on the Second African Development Forum (ADF II) planned to take place at the ECA from 22 to 26 October 2000 on the theme AIDS: The Greatest Leadership Challenge. ADF II is a partnership effort led by ECA, UNAIDS, UNDP, UNICEF, and the World Bank to stimulate coordinated UN system response in support of HIV-related policies and programs at the regional, sub-regional, and country levels.
