Fifty-first session of the Economic Commission for Africa

Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development

 

Addis Ababa, 11-15 May 2018

 

  1. On the advice of the Bureau of the Economic Commission for Africa and pursuant to rule 4 of the Rules of Procedure of the Economic Commission for Africa, this serves as a revised notification that the fifty-first session of the Economic Commission for Africa and the Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development (“Conference of Ministers”) will now be held at the United Nations Conference Centre in Addis Ababa from 11 to 15 May 2018.
  2. The Committee of Experts will open at 9 a.m. on Friday, 11 May 2018, in preparation for the ministerial segment, which will open at 9 a.m. on Monday, 14 May 2018.
  3. The provisional agendas are attached to the present notification.
  4. The fifty-first session of the Commission will focus on the theme: African Continental Free Trade Area and fiscal space for jobs and economic diversification.
  5. The plenary sessions of the Conference of Ministers will commence with a high-level policy dialogue on the theme, followed by a series of round-table discussions on related topics. Benefitting from the contributions of seasoned and high-level panellists from within and outside Africa, the discussions will build on the issues paper and technical background materials. The objective is to achieve agreed outcomes that will have important implications for the continent’s future.
  6. It is anticipated that the parallel side events scheduled to be held on 13 May 2018 will give rise to further inspiring discussions and findings.
  7. Delegations are requested to submit to the Secretary of the Commission, by 10 April 2018, the names of accredited representatives and experts who will participate in the session.
  8. In accordance with rule 13, the credentials of representatives should be addressed to the Executive Secretary prior to the first meeting of the session. Please send a copy of the credentials by 7 May 2018 to Mahelet Guoshe at guoshe@un.org and submit the originals at the registration desk upon arrival at the United Nations Conference Centre.
  9. Participants should register online. Online registration will be available on the dedicated website at: www.uneca.org/cfm2018.
  10. On-site registration will also take place between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. from 7 to 13 May 2018 at the designated registration site, where pre-registered participants will be able to pick up their badges.
  11. The provisional programmes of work, a detailed information note and other relevant documentation, including technical and working papers for the meeting, will be issued to participants in due course. To obtain access to the documentation prior to the meeting, delegates are requested to visit the session website.
