The 2017 Ibrahim Index for African Governance shows that only a third of countries are driving overall improvement in African governance. The index however notes that many countries still fail to build on prior progress. Most women in Africa are still not strategically positioned to benefit from trade. Three women in the trade space have shared their thoughts on this. The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, UNECA has honoured President Akufo-Addo as the AU Gender Champion for 2017. The Chairman of the African Union, Guinea's President, Prof. Alpha Conde who is also Chairman of the African Union, said the honour is in recognition of President Akufo Addo's effort in promoting gender equality on the continent.
