Regional integration: African Statistics Directors meet at World Statistics Congress

Marrakesh, 13 July 2017 (ECA) - The UN Economic Commission for Africa and the Kingdom of Morocco High Commission for Planning (HCP) will hold a regional conference on the role of statistics in Africa’s regional integration Thursday 20 July in Marrakech, in the context of the 61st World Statistics Congress (ISI2017).

Morocco’s High Commissioner for Planning of Morocco Ahmed Lahlimi and ECA’s Deputy Executive Secretary for Knowledge Delivery Giovannie Biha will jointly lead the debate. Participants will include directors of African national statistics institutes and representatives of several regional institutions including the African Union Commission (AUC), the African Development Bank (AfDB) and several UN organizations.

The conference aims to take African discussions further on the challenges and opportunities related to the upgrading of national statistical systems. Participants will also discuss how statistical institutes can support regional integration in Africa.
