Objective :
The Sub-Regional Office for West Africa of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (SRO-WA/ECA) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) West and Central Africa Regional Office (UNFPA WCARO), in collaboration with the Government of The Gambia and the Regional Consortium for Research in Generational Economy (CREG) are jointly convening two back-to-back hands-on capacity building on the retropolation of the Demographic Dividend Monitoring Index (DDMI) and Budget transformation techniques. The technical support is targeting Experts from the National Observatory for the Demographic Dividend, the ministries responsible for Health, Gender and Education, and Employment, as well as the Gambia Bureau of Statistics and the National Population Commission Secretariat.
The purpose of this technical assistance is to transform The Gambia’s classical budgets into functional budgets that are compatible with the demographic dividend dimensions and to estimate and calibrate the demographic dividend monitoring index, with the view to inform the country’s adoption of the budgeting sensitive to demographic dividend (BSDD) approach. Ultimately, the operationalization of the BSDD approach in the Gambia’s planning and programming budgetary process will form the basis of the strategic allocation of resources to the sectors that are driving the demographic dividend.
