AfCRA is an African Union initiative established to strengthen Africa's presence in the global credit ratings landscape. Structured to operate independently, the Agency brings a stronger understanding of African economies, markets and local context to credit assessments, while complementing the work of existing international credit rating agencies.
The Agency's mandate covers sovereign, sub-sovereign and corporate entities, including segments of the African market that remain largely unrated. Through its work, AfCRA seeks to broaden access to credible credit opinions, support access to capital and contribute to the development of stronger domestic financial markets. It also brings an African perspective to the global financial system, where credit ratings play an important role in investment and financing decisions.
