  2. The 7th Session of the Partners Coordination Platform (PCP-7) on Water and Sanitation

The 7th Session of the Partners Coordination Platform (PCP-7) is underway in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire. It is co-convened by the African Union-DARBE and the African Ministers' Council on Water (AMCOW) Secretariat, in collaboration with United Nations Economic Commission for Africa and African Development Bank Group, with support from GIZ African Union.

The session offers partners another opportunity to review the draft First Implementation Plan (2026–2033) of the Africa Water Vision 2063 and Policy, which the 39th African Union Assembly endorsed in February 2026. It also considers proposed flagship initiatives across eight thematic areas, including financing to close the investment gap, WASH governance and universal rights-based access, climate adaptation and resilience, transboundary water cooperation, and groundwater management, amongst others...

The PCP has long served as the continent's coordination platform for water and sanitation transformation, bringing together Member States, financing institutions, implementing partners and other stakeholders. This year, it convenes during the AU Year of Water and Sanitation 2026, under the theme "Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063."

As Africa prepares for the 2026 UN Water Conference in the UAE and the 11th World Water Forum in 2027, the continent must agree on a Common Position and priorities for water and sanitation. The message from Abidjan is clear: coordination, investment, and accountability are critical if Africa is to translate commitments into tangible results!
