The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and The African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) are organizing a two-day Retreat in Lusaka, Zambia from 27-28 March on the establishment of the African Credit Rating Agency.
The retreat aims to discuss the challenges and opportunities towards the successful launch of ACRA. It comes after the decision of the 6th Ordinary Session of the African Union’s Specialized Technical Committee on Finance, Monetary Affairs, Economic Planning and Integration Ministers’ Meeting held in July 2023, which adopted a declaration to, “Endorse Establishment of a private sector driven African Credit rating Agency based on self-funding and sustaining”.
Key expected outcomes of the retreat include:
- A comprehensive report with key discussions and recommendations on how best to tackle challenges related to credit ratings in Africa
- A detailed workplan
The retreat will be preceded by the 3rd Meeting of the African Network of National Regulators of Credit Rating Agencies on 26 March. The Network of National Regulators of Credit Rating Agencies convenes national regulators from across Africa to explore ways to enhance the in-country and cross-border regulation of rating agencies. It serves as a pivotal platform facilitating collaboration among African national regulators.
