The Subregional Office for Central Africa of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), in partnership with Denmark (through the Danish International Development Agency - DANIDA) and the governments of the Central African Republic, the Republic of Congo and Equatorial Guinea, is officially launching a new regional project designed to promote greener, more inclusive and sustainable trade in Central Africa. The event to be held online the 7th October 2025 marks a critical step in supporting countries of the subregion in the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), while integrating environmental sustainability and economic resilience into national and regional strategies.
As real drivers of growth and innovation with job creation, economic diversification and industrialization, the small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are at the heart of this project. By strengthening their capacities, improving their access to the opportunities created by the AfCFTA and guiding them toward climate-resilient business practices, the project seeks to transform today’s challenges into engines of shared prosperity.
Through capacity-building workshops, the development of tailored national strategies, and the launch of a multi-stakeholder dialogue on green trade, the programme aims to equip the 3 beneficiaries countries with concrete tools to build more competitive and sustainable value chains.
The launch event therefore serves as a strategic platform to mobilize governments, the private sector, technical and financial partners, and civil society in accelerating Central Africa’s transition towards a more resilient, integrated and forward-looking economy.
