This Solutions Session aims to highlight the positive impact of migration and remittances on socio-economic development in Africa. It will showcase practical policy approaches and government initiatives—such as integrating diaspora engagement into national development plans—to harness the transformative power of migration in reducing poverty, fostering social inclusion, and creating employment.

Session Objectives

• Demonstrate the developmental value of remittances as a catalyst for social progress, job creation, and poverty alleviation in Africa, while exploring actionable strategies, policy mechanisms, and innovative tools to amplify their impact.
• Identify key opportunities and challenges and share successful African case studies—including leadership roles taken by countries such as Tunisia and Ghana in embedding diaspora contributions into their national development agendas and utilizing them as drivers for sustainable development.
• Encourage effective partnerships and policy solutions that optimize remittance flows for sustainable growth, particularly amid shrinking traditional financing sources.
• Promote cross-sector dialogue and collaboration among Member States and the UN.
