Objective

As part of ongoing technical support to Member States, the Sub-Regional Office for West Africa of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA/SRO-WA) and the Regional Office for West and Central Africa of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) are jointly organizing a Virtual Workshop to validate the Survey Report on the implementation of the Demographic Dividend Roadmap in Africa.

In October 2024, an online survey was launched to monitor the progress in implementing the 2017 African Union roadmap on harnessing the Demographic Dividend through massive investments in youth. The survey targeted 23 countries across West and Central Africa, from which seventeen (17) countries responded.

The virtual workshop will be held on 17 June 2025, from 8:45 AM to 12:00 PM GMT. It aims to validate the survey findings and engage stakeholders in discussions on the way forward. The event will focus on strengthening the operationalization of the roadmap by Member States, particularly through the development of a regional monitoring mechanism to support and track its implementation. This initiative reflects the commitment of ECA and UNFPA to supporting member States to reap the benefits of the demographic dividend opportunities in terms of inclusive and sustainable development.
