Deadline extended for Call for Short Stories on Land Governance

22 septembre, 2025

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 22 September 2025 (ECA) – Following numerous calls from the African creative writing community, the organisers of the 2025 Conference on Land Policy in Africa (CLPA), a joint initiative of the African Union Commission (AUC), the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), and the African Development Bank (AfDB), have extended the call for short stories exploring issues surrounding land governance, justice, and reparations for Africans and descendants of the African diaspora.

According to the African Land Policy Centre, which serves as the secretariat for the organizing of the CLPA, the new deadline of 20th October is expected to give writers more time to submit their short stories in a timely manner. Selected entries will be published in the second Anthology of Short Stories on Land Governance, and the best three entries will be awarded a small token of appreciation and recognition.

As part of the conversations building around the 2025 CLPA, taking place from November 10-14, 2025, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, this second anthology also seeks to reimagine Africa’s land governance possibilities through fiction across a variety of genres. The short stories are used in training curricula to complement technical approaches to the question of land governance on the Continent in the context of the AU agenda on land. Writers from the African continent and the diaspora—particularly African youth —are encouraged to submit their work by the new deadline of 20th October 2025.

The first Anthology, titled “Finding Ground and Other Stories”, was published in 2022 and has been used by land stakeholders for discussions on land governance in the context of the African Union’s agenda on land.
