The rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is reshaping labour markets, economic systems, and governance structures globally. Across Africa, AI presents significant opportunities to enhance productivity, expand innovation, create new economic sectors, and support inclusive development. At the same time, the continent faces critical challenges related to skills gaps, informality, governance, data sovereignty, and unequal access to digital infrastructure. Building on the discussions and insights emerging from the AI & Jobs in Africa webinar held on 26 February 2026, hosted by the @UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and the Africa Development Impact Forum (ADIF) in collaboration with the @Oxford Martin School, the thematic plenary session aims to deepen evidence-based dialogue on the implications of Artificial Intelligence for employment, economic transformation, and policy development in Africa.
