Course Overview
The ECA Language School, under the Human Resources Management Section, offers staff members and their eligible dependents the opportunity to strengthen their oral and written communication skills for professional and everyday use.
Classes are offered each term based on enrolment and are designed to support continuous language development across all levels. Early registration is strongly encouraged to secure preferred time slots.
Languages Offered

Amharic – Designed for international staff and spouses in Ethiopia to gain practical communication skills for daily interactions.

Arabic – From beginner to advanced, focusing on grammar, culture, and speech to support work effectiveness and prepare for the UN Language Proficiency Examination (LPE).

Chinese – Currently offered at the beginner level to build a foundation in one of the UN’s official languages.

English – Offered from intermediate level upward, emphasizing workplace communication and fluency. Placement tests determine starting level.

French – From beginner to proficiency, ideal for staff serving in francophone duty stations across Africa.

Kiswahili – Currently offered at the beginner level to build a foundation in one of the UN’s official languages.
