ECA studies migration statistics and skills recognition in Mali

Bamako, August 10, 2021 (ECA) - The Economic Commission for Africa is presenting this Thursday, August 12, in collaboration with the Mali Ministry of Malians Abroad and African integration a capacity building workshop on migration issues aimed at supporting Malian actors on the themes of migration statistics and migrant skills recognition.

The workshop is being held as part of a project led by ECA and carried out in partnership with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), of the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), with the aim of increasing the capacity of African countries to design evidence-based migration policies and programs, in accordance with international, regional and African protocols and frameworks on migration.

This inaugural workshop aims to present the work plan and methodology of the upcoming reports on migration statistics and migrant skills recognition in Mali, to collect the working group feedback and amendments. This ECA facilitated programme aims to support Mali’s efforts to implement both the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) in the country.

The event will see the participation of senior representatives of the Malian government, international organizations and research institutes.
