Voluntary Local Reviews in Africa

Sub-national governments and stakeholders play a pivotal role in the implementation of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and Agenda 2063 of the African Union. Grassroots initiatives undertaken at the local level have been integral to responding to COVID, protecting the environment, and ensuring inclusive development across Africa. As countries continue to evaluate their progress towards the two agendas through Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs), interest in pursuing this review process at the local level has been growing exponentially.

ECA Staff Union

The ECA Staff Union was established in accordance to the United Nations Staff Rules and Regulations as indicated in Article 8: “The Secretary-General shall establish and maintain continuous contact and communication with the staff in order to ensure effective participation of the staff in identifying, examining and resolving issues relating to staff welfare, including conditions of work, general conditions of life and other human resources policies… Staff Representative bodies shall be established and shall be entitled to initiate proposals to the Secretary General for the purpose of staff

Knowledge Services Section

The ECA Knowledge Services Section plays a key role in the Commission’s knowledge management activities and significantly impact the quality of its knowledge products and services. The mission of the Library, as a central catalyst for organizational effectiveness, is to continuously enrich and add value to the Commission's knowledge ecosystem, by providing reliable access to high quality information resources and services.

 

Protocol and Liaison Service

The Protocol and Liaison Services Unit is one of the core units within the Publications and Conference Management Section. Its mission is maintaining excellence in providing consistent, ethical and high-quality protocol services to its internal and external clients and at the same time preserving and protecting the integrity of the strategic vision of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA).
