Addis Ababa to Host 36th African Hydro Symposium in November 2026

Addis Ababa, 13 October 2026: The 36th African Hydro Symposium (AHS2026) will take place in Addis Ababa from 3–6 November 2026, with two major outcomes expected to advance  Africa’s energy security and capacity-development agenda: the launch of the African Energy Security Policy Framework, led by the AUC, ECA, AUDA-NEPAD and AFREC, and the official signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the African Union, acting through AFREC and KGRTC.

The MOU will establish a framework for cooperation in capacity development and institutional strengthening, training programmes and curricula, renewable energy skills, energy transition, joint events and strategic forums, resource mobilisation, and knowledge sharing.

The symposium will bring together policymakers, utilities, developers, financiers, researchers and energy-sector professionals under the major theme “Climate-Resilient Hydropower and Water–Energy Security in Africa.” Hosting impactful side events like the Grand Inga side event.

Established in 1989, the African Hydro Symposium is Africa’s longest-running professional hydropower platform, providing a trusted forum for practical knowledge exchange and peer learning. AHS2026 will focus on six key areas:

  • Operations, Maintenance & Performance
  • Innovation & Future-Oriented Solutions
  • Sustainability, Environment & Climate Resilience
  • Project Development & Financing
  • Policy & Institutional Development, Training and Capacity Building
  • Power Markets, Grid Integration & Energy Trading
