Online, August 25, 2021: Cities Alliance, a global partnership fighting urban poverty and supporting cities to deliver sustainable development, will hold on Thursday, August 26 a round table on the role of secondary cities in promoting the inclusion and integration of migrants in partnership with UCLG Africa and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).

This meeting will bring together urban actors from the Horn of Africa to promote the voices of secondary cities and their role in encouraging the integration of refugees and migrants.

This event aims to promote regional networking and dialogue across secondary city representatives who can encourage exchanges about local and regional planning, innovation, learning and the adoption of best practices, reducing the risks of rivalry and conflicts and improving living conditions and opportunities for both, migrants and their host communities.

This meeting is taking place in preparation for the Africa Regional Review Conference of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM), occurring next week on 31 August and 1 September: an event jointly organized by the UN Network on Migration, the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), in partnership with the African Union Commission (AUC), and hosted by the Kingdom of Morocco.

Viewers will be able to follow discussions in English, French and Arabic.

Participants and journalists wishing to get in touch with the organizers for questions or interview requests may send an email to flozet@citiesalliance.org.
