Dakar, January 10, 2024 (ECA) - The ECA Office for North Africa is holding, in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad, a workshop on the contribution of migration to development in Africa on 17-18 January in Dakar (Senegal).

This event is taking place as part of ECA’s support to the implementation of the Global Compact for Migration in Africa; it concludes a series of workshops and research studies conducted in Côte d'Ivoire, Mali, Morocco, Senegal, South Africa and Zimbabwe between 2021 and 2023 with a focus on migration statistics and migrant skills’ recognition.

The January 17-18 meeting aims to review the experiences of the countries taking part in the project, promote an improved use of diasporas' contribution to the development of their countries of origin, ensure these contributions are understood and integrated into their development, and finally share African experiences and best practices to make the most of migrants' contribution to sustainable development. Participants will include representatives of the six countries taking part in the ECA, Mauritania, Ghana and the African Union African Institute of Remittances (AIR).
